Content drafts
Create a Google doc for your project containing all the written content. If images or other media are necessary to make sense of your content, include them as well. Your post should include your project title and an active hyperlink to the Google doc containing the content.
Content drafts ensure that you have a clear story to tell or argument to make before you begin designing the form(s) of delivery. Any design or DH project is only as good as its content. In addition, writing for digital environments has to be as good or even better than for print settings, because your readers are more easily distracted. Writing has to be clear, concise, accurate, and well-formatted with clear divisions, headers, and navigation paths (notice here that content is inseparable from design elements). Putting all your content into a Google doc enables you to look at it holistically and get feedback and commentary from readers while you still have time to make edits and additions.
Remember that this is a content draft, not a final product. Your content can and should change and develop as you design the form of its delivery. Think of content and form as organic and mutually informing.
Instructions for sharing content drafts
- Decide who will create a content draft post for your project—each project should publish only one content draft post.
- Create a new post in your subdomain entitled: [title of your project]–content draft
- Create and check the category = content draft
- In the post insert an active hyperlink to the Google doc containing your content draft
- Publish your post and check the course website an hour later to make sure it syndicated and the link works.
Peer Critique
Peer critique is a great way for you to learn about and be inspired by each other’s projects. Do not compare and despair! Instead, remember that these projects are works in progress. Offer constructive commentary to help develop each project’s content and fill gaps.
Peer Critique Groups
Note: change to peer critique groups as of 3/31/20
- Translating Social science into Action: Sustainable Fashion, Toy Marketing, Intergenerational Mental Health (3 projects, 7 people)

Instructions for peer critique
- Find content draft post on course site and open Google doc linked therein
- Sign in to ENG 406 group in Hypothesis
- As you read the content draft, make any annotations along the way
- When you are finished, click on the page icon in the Hypothesis sidebar to create a page note in which you identify:
- the one idea or argument that is being communicated most effectively
- the one area that needs most attention
- one idea or question you’d like to see addressed in the project

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Please also communicate with us using the class list if you have any problems completing these steps on time. That way, everyone will know when they can expect to give and receive peer critique.
